New English TranslationFor the music director, to be accompanied by stringed instruments, according to the sheminith style; a psalm of David. 1 LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger! Do not discipline me in your raging fury! 2 Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am frail! Heal me, LORD, for my bones are shaking! 3 I am absolutely terrified, and you, LORD - how long will this continue? 4 Relent, LORD, rescue me! Deliver me because of your faithfulness! 5 For no one remembers you in the realm of death, In Sheol who gives you thanks? 6 I am exhausted as I groan; all night long I drench my bed in tears; my tears saturate the cushion beneath me. 7 My eyes grow dim from suffering; they grow weak because of all my enemies. 8 Turn back from me, all you who behave wickedly, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping! 9 The LORD has heard my appeal for mercy; the LORD has accepted my prayer. 10 May all my enemies be humiliated and absolutely terrified! May they turn back and be suddenly humiliated! |
King James VersionTo the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. 1 O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. 2 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. 3 My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long? 4 Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake. 5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks? 6 I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears. 7 Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies. 8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping. 9 The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer. 10 Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly. |
