Psalms

The fifth book of Psalms, song 120, New English Translation and King James Version

Psalm 120

New English Translation

   A song of ascents.
1 In my distress I cried out to the LORD and he answered me.
2 I said, "O LORD, rescue me from those who lie with their lips and those who deceive with their tongue.
3 How will he severely punish you, you deceptive talker?
4 Here's how! With the sharp arrows of warriors, with arrowheads forged over the hot coals.
5 How miserable I am! For I have lived temporarily in Meshech; I have resided among the tents of Kedar.
6 For too long I have had to reside with those who hate peace.
7 I am committed to peace, but when I speak, they want to make war.

King James Version

   A Song of degrees.
1 In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.
2 Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
3 What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?
4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.
5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!
6 My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.
7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.
